We arrived here from La Fortuna after buying a "Jeep-boat-Jeep" ticket. It turned out to be a "minibus-boat-people carrier" ticket, which I suppose doesn't have the same ring to it.
The final leg of journey, after we had crossed Lake Arenal, saw us spend about an hour in aforementioned people carrier, which bombed around dirt roads, making for a bumpy ride. Amazingly, we both managed to fall asleep during the rollercoaster ride - some achievement, it's like managing to get 40 winks while zorbing.
Yesterday we saw the Arenal Volcano, which revealed it's summit after spending much of the day shrouded in cloud (clouded?). We also saw our first really big spider, which was cool, as it wasn't on our faces at the time, just chilling out in its web.
In the afternoon we went to some pretty impressive hot springs in the shadow of the volcano. The pools varied in temperature, size and shape. There was also some crazy water slides - Stacey became the centre of attention after screaming all the way down one and emerging at the bottom to a crowd of watching Costa Ricans. There was also a water bar, so we felt we needed to have a drink at it. Now, you can't just have lager at a water bar, so we ordered some mojitos, which turned out to be very expensive. Ironic that we spend hours trying to find the cheapest hostels, buses, food etc, then go and blow all that we had saved on a cocktail in a spa. But we decided that it would be paid for by the money which friends and family gave us before we came. Not ALL of the money our friends and family gave us - now they would be expensive mojitos.
As I write Stacey is rocking away in a hammock with reggae playing in the background, so things here are pretty damned laid back.
